God is the one who creates, maintains and destroys this creation.
When we see this beautiful world around us we are charmed with the magnificence of the it, and soon the idea creator developed . Since we have a limited sized body and shape , we also thought God to be of some sort of humane and imagined God to be having limbs like us to carry out works and senses like us to collect information and look after the creation.
Vedanta however describes God to be in a different way. it says the one who identifies oneself with the consciousness pervading the Maya is Eeswara or God.
So we see that the conception of God has got nothing to do with any size or shape, though however we can imagine a shape to God but consciousness doesn't have got any shape.
What is this consciousness anyway?
--- this is the subject of Vedanta, consciousness. To make people aware of this consciousness one is introduced with the idea of sentient and insentient. To know about this consciousness the whole Vedanta is devoted. Upanishads are the part of Vedas and they speak of this consciousness.
